There are a few ways of playing Tau. No matter how you play it seems that close combat will be the end of any hope of winning. So far the best way for me to keep out of combat is using the Fish of Fury style of play. This is when you put fire warriors in devil fish and use them to get into rapid fire range and maximize their firepower. And while maximizing your firepower you keep a devilfish inbetween you and your enemy so that they have to go around it to assault you.
